Organisation

The Championships are organised on behalf of the English Ski Council by the London and South East Regional Ski Association (LSERSA) and will be run in accordance with F.I.S. rules as modified to meet the needs of the competition.

The race weekend will consist of a special slalom on each of the two days (run in accordance with E.S.C. Grand Prix rules, i.e. 2 courses), followed by team parallel slaloms.

The team parallel slalom for children 1 and 2 timetabled for Saturday, the team parallel slalom for juniors / seniors / masters for Sunday and the special slalom on Sunday have been nominated as the European Championships.

Every attempt will be made to keep to the above schedule. The organisers reserve the right to amend the programme as necessary.

 

 

Race Rules

The race will be run under F.I.S. rules as varied by the E.S.C. All skis must be fitted with brakes and competitors must wear long sleeves, long trousers and gloves whilst on the ski slope.

If time allows racers who are disqualified or do not finish the 1st run will be given a second run, however their times will not be recorded on the results.

The parallel slalom relays will be run in accordance with the E.S.C. race manual - Pages 7-1 to 7-6 and will consist of one run per round and the final being decided on the best of three runs. Any team having a bye in the first round, will be allowed one training run down one course only, before the competition starts - therefore no byes will be skied. No competitor may race for more than one team in a given day.

Children’s Team Parallel Slalom - European Championships

A team will consists of four racers, at least one of whom should be female. Each team will be seeded on the results from the days special slalom. A single entry will be accepted from each of the Home Nations and other national teams present to a maximum of 16. In the event of fewer than 8 entries being received, a second entry may be accepted from each nation to a maximum of 8 teams.

Junior / Senior Team Parallel Slalom - European Championships

A team will consist of six racers from the Junior / Senior categories, at least two of whom must be female. Each team will be seeded from the results of the days special slalom. A single entry will be accepted from each of the Home Nations and other national teams present to a maximum of 16. In the event of fewer than 8 entries being received, a second entry may be accepted from each nation to a maximum of 8 teams.

A substitution from Children II may be accepted by the jury on the basis of injury in the junior / senior team, or from an overseas team being unable to achieve the minimum number of team members. Nations with 6 or more junior / senior athletes entered in the individual championship must nominate these first.

Team Managers Meeting

These will be held in the Ski Lodge, throughout the weekend at times stated in the programme.

Prizes

Awards for the Wycombe Cup and the European Championships special slaloms events will be made to both Female and Male racers as shown in table below. In both Parallel slaloms, prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd positioned teams.

Prize giving for both days will take place on Sunday at approximately 17.30 hours

The winners will be expected to show due courtesy to the organisers by attending the prize giving . Those who do not attend without good reason could lose claim to their award.

Acceptance

The jury met on Friday 2nd July 1999 and used E.S.C. seed list 1999.1 to determine the acceptance list and decide on cut off points for both days of 250 seed points for all categories, excluding skiers with a disability for whom there is no cut off point.

Wycombe Cup - Saturday 17th July

Entries were received from 178 racers (54 females and 124 males) and the following were not accepted as they did not meet the seed point criteria: male racers Edward Thelwell and Luke Jones.

Entries were received from 202 racers (60 females and 142 males) and the following were not accepted as they did not meet the seed point criteria: male racers Edward Thelwell, Luke Jones and Colin Iseard.

The Draw for the start list will take place on Wednesday evening 14th July 1999 and start list will be available to all racers on Saturday morning 17th July.

Late Entries will only be accepted from members of National Teams and skiers with a disability.

Protests against non acceptance

Protests against non acceptance must be received by the Race Secretary, in writing, by first post on Wednesday July 14th 1999.

Results of protests and confirmation of late entries may be obtained by phoning the Race Secretary, Sally Woods, on 01634 362174 between 20.00 hours and 21.00 hours on Thursday 15th July 1999.

 

Race Office

The race office will be at the Race Secretary’s Address until the evening of Thursday 15th July 1999. It will then be located at Wycombe Summit Ski Centre from 16.00 hours on Friday 16th July.

Notice Board

The Official race notice board will be located on the wall by the balcony of the Ski Centre.

Commentators Sheets and Race Bibs

Commentator sheets must be completed and handed in when collecting race bibs. Race bibs must be returned to the Finish Marshall on completion of the second run, failure to do so will result in a charge of £25 for each missing bib.

Protocol Protests

These must be made on official forms which will be available at the Race Office and must be accompanied by the appropriate fee. The cost of making a protest in any E.S.C. race will be £20 per protest (fee is returnable if protest is upheld) as notified in Alpine Racing Bulletin 1998.

First Aid

Wycombe Summit First Aiders will be in attendance.

Refunds

On acceptance into a race a refund of 50% will only be given to racers if a medical certificate is submitted.

Open Practice

Wycombe Summit Ski Centre will be open for open practice from 18.00 hours to 22.00 hours on Friday 16 th July 1999, prices are £6.50 for the evening session.

Dope Control

The Sports Council reserve the right to conduct dope control tests at all races and sports occasions and the E.S.C. and LSERSA will assist them as necessary.

Insurance

The Slope and the event are covered for Public Liability Insurance and all registered racers are covered by their national schemes. If any non registered racer is in doubt about their insurance cover they can obtain daily cover under the E.S.C. scheme at £2.50 per day from the Race Secretary.
