Press Release

Friday 27th January 2006
Chemmy Alcott (23, The British Land Alpine Ski Team)
carried on her
promising form in Super G when she skied to 19th place
in difficult
conditions today in the Audi FIS Alpine Ski Women's
World Cup.
With heavy overnight snow refusing to relent for the
race start, the
contest was delayed for three hours to wait for a
weather window. Depsite
the best efforts of the course workers, the visibility
was poor and the new
snow was especially tricky for Alcott who, racing with
bib number 2, became
the first racer to reach the finish.
She set a marker of 1 minute 18.99 seconds which was
ultimately bettered by
defending world cup champion Anja Paerson who set a
winning time of
1:16.75.
Alcott races again tomorrow on Cortina's famous
she scored her career best result of 9th in the
women's downhill two years
ago. After training tenth quickest on Thursday the
omens are good and
Chemmy was looking forward to her first ever bib draw
(for the Top 15 timed
on the last training run) this evening.
"It's really exciting, another thing that I've
never done, so I'm really
looking forward to it. If I could do the same tomorrow
it would be awesome,
but really anything up there would be good because
I've only had one 25th
in downhill this season."
"It was tough today because of all the snow but I
did not ski well. I made
a few powder turns and that is not quick at all, but
with the new snow and
going so early it was not easy."
While it is still snowing here in Cortina this
evening, the forecast is for
it to stop during the night.
"I am not too bothered one way or another as long
as the race goes. If it
does not stop they'll start it below the Tofane jump,
which would suit me
because I have not been enjoying the top turn at
all!" she jokes.
This is her 11th career Top 20 at world cup and
she currently lies 25th on
the World Cup Women's Super G rankings.
