From The British Land Junior National Ski Championships Meribel, France. Day 2

Junior Giant Slalom.

Louise Thomas (19, Guildford) carried her winning form from Slalom to Giant Slalom today when she added her second title in as many days at The British Land Junior National Ski Championships in Meribel, France. Top seeded Thomas was fastest on both Giant Slalom runs to win 3.92 seconds from Wales' Gemma Harris (19, Cardiff). With two title wins Thomas is the runaway leader in the pursuit of the overall British Junior Combined title.

The Men's Junior Giant Slalom title was won today by Peter-Edwin Whelan (17, Uxbridge/The British Land Alpine Ski Team). After winning the Slalom on Sunday, Dougie Crawford (19, Bearsden/The British Land Alpine Ski Team) was clear favourite to win but he skied out on the final third of the first course, out of contention. Whelan was one tenth of a second clear in the international FIS field and over one second ahead of his nearest title rival Greg Samuels (19, Great Missenden, Berks) after the first run. A solid second run was enough to secure the British Junior Men's Giant Slalom title. "I had an OK first run but I was a little disappointed with my second run, I was holding back a little too much and made a few little mistakes, so I was miffed not to win the overall international race, but it is good to win a title anyway." Said Whelan, who is completing his first season on The British Land Alpine Ski Team." My first year on the team has not been easy. I have made a few good results, but I have learned a lot about myself. I have learned to relax a bit more and not beat myself up so much if it does not go so well, but to put my efforts into my skiing and relax.  I am pretty happy with the way it has gone, and am really looking forward to next season already. I am the baby on the team, which is good in many ways because there is always something to chase."

In the Junior 1 Age-group (Year of Birth 1990-91) Jayme Baggio (15,Harpenden) also added the Giant Slalom title to the Junior 1 Slalom she won Sunday while Harry Brown (15, Chateauneuf, Nice) lifted the Junior 1 Men's title.
