2007/2008 PRE SEASON TRAINING

Our winter season which starts each year at the beginning of the October half term camp, was this year was held at the Kaprun Glacier (The Kitzsteinhorn). We had a small number of racers train at the academy after the half term from periods of one week up to one month. Some racers opted for the new weekend training program, taking advantage of the cheap pre holiday flights.

With everyone wanting to prepare early for the BARSC children and Junior races in Les Menuires and with training conditions being excellent due to the early snow falls, we trained at the nearby resort of Obertauern from mid November and our athletes managed to get some excellent training in preparation for travelling to France and trained alongside the Serbian National Team girls who were staying and training with us. BARA has always offered excellent facilities and training prior to the start of the main season at very low prices from as little as £180.00 for the weekend program and £300 to £400.00 for one week.

2007/2008 - BARSC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Well done to all the BARA trainees who attended the above championships either with us or with your respective clubs. A special mention must go to one of our long term trainees Emily Evans, who has attended the BARA academy since its inception 4 seasons ago, for taking the BARSC overall Children’s Female Champion title, with three first places, Congratulations and well done Emily.

INTO THE MAIN SEASON

January was very busy at the academy as in addition to our usual small contingent of British racers we had, 1 racer from Switzerland, 6 racers from Australia, 2 racers from the Serbian Female National team and 7 racers from the Macedonian National Junior Male team, join us at the academy. We are looking more and more like an International racing academy rather than a British racing academy, as we have recently had more enquiries from international teams/racers than British racers. We are currently in negotiations with a national ski federation to train 4 of their top children racers as well as their junior athletes from next season through to the 2010 Olympics and we hope to formally announce this by the end of the season, when contracts are signed.

The children’s race program in Austria will started with the first race on the 26th January and will continue through to March. If you are intending to join us for some of these races we will need at least 3 weeks notice and you must train with us for at least one week prior to a race.

EBEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Well done to all our racers who took part in the local Eben Giant Slalom Championships, a special mention goes out to Australian racer Georgie Lee who took first place in the female juniors and British racer Matthew Jessup who finished in 7th place in the children 11 boys.

BRITISH RACE CAMPS

We will be supporting all the British races again this year starting with the English Championships at Bormio in February and ending with the British Championships, in Meribel at Easter. The details and prices of all the race camps can be found on our web site.

TRAINING ONLY OPTION/OUTSIDE ACCOMODATION

For parents who want to enjoy a holiday break whilst their child trains at the academy. We offer a training only price which does not include accommodation at the academy. This is a much cheaper option if combined with a family holiday break. Accommodation can be booked through a British couple who have lived locally for a number of years and know the area and the many guest house and hotels really well. Their web site is http://www.amadebreaks.com

BARA BURSARIES 2008/2009

We have a limited amount of bursaries available for the next season, which offer substantial savings to athletes that are looking to train for 10 or more weeks; this includes the British race camps. There are a small number of bursaries on offer for each age category, which will be offered on a first come basis. The basic concept is explained on our web site, if you are interested in applying for a bursary please email us as soon as possible.

2008/2009 JUNIOR RACE PROGRAM NOV/DEC 2008

From the start of next season we have a special FIS early season race program planned for junior racers. The program will run from the middle of November 2008 through to the end of January 2009. The program will cater for 12 junior racers, a minimum of 6 places have already been allocated to the Australian FIS junior team racers, which will consist of 3 girls and 3 boys, we are looking for 6 British racers, again 3 girls and 3 boys, these places will be financial subsidised. The teams will have at their disposal 2 mini buses and a cargo van. Our current coaches Milan and Nikola and a third assistant female coach will make up the team. It is envisaged that from the second week in December the team will travel frequently and attend as many CIT races as possible which will be in the region of 20 races. If you are interested in joining the team please let us know by the end of April 2008.

2008/2009 LOYALTY DISCOUNT

THIS YEAR WE INTRODUCED A LOYALTY DISCOUNT TO REWARD THOSE RACERS TRAINING WITH US YEAR ON YEAR, SO DO NOT FORGET THAT WHEN BOOKING FOR NEXT SEASON, IF YOU HAVE ALREADY TRAINED THIS YEAR WITH US, THEN YOU WILL BE ENTITLED TO A 10% DISCOUNT OFF OUR TRAINING PRICES AND THIS DISCOUNT GETS LARGER YEAR ON YEAR.

Due to our initial large investment in our own wholly owed premises and continued improvements each year, we are able to keep to our promise made at the inception of BARA which was to reduce our overheads year on year as we gained experience and better control of costs and to keep our rates as affordable as possible. If for instance you want to book for 7 weeks training next year and have trained with us this year the weekly training cost starts at under £400.00, this is fantastic value bearing in mind the quality of our coaching/teaching staff and the premises we operate from.
