Dear Friends and Supporters,
Firstly, Happy New Year to you all from everyone
at Snow-Camp!
It's looking like 2011 is going to be an exciting 8th
year for the charity - new snowsports courses are planned, new
partnerships developing and hopefully for the first time ever, new young
people trained as instructors in April! Like many charities, we
have some significant challenges to face in the year ahead - with cuts
from funding sources and the general economic situation presenting other
funding restrictions. But we are nevertheless confident that with hard
work and the proven impact of Snow-Camp activities, we will be able to
deliver another fantastic year of programmes for young people.
At
the moment though, it's all systems go for this year's Everest
Challenge sponsored by Ellis Brigham. On Thursday, a group of
33 intrepid supporters and 4 staff from Snow-Camp and our partners
at BaseCamp will be heading off to France to complete over 150km of
skiing and boarding across 15 different resorts, with two night stages
completing the experience…see next month's newsletter to find out how
they got on! Good luck to all our Challengers!
And
if the Everest Challenge wasn't for you, why not jump out of a plane
for Snow-Camp this Summer - FREE! Details of of our 'Jump for Snow-Camp'
day on July 16th are below..
In the meantime, enjoy this month's update.
The Snow-Camp Team
Programmes Update
The
UK section of the first ever Excel programme was completed on Saturday
22nd January at MK SNO!zone. Our 20 students, each aiming for their
Instructor or Trainee Instructor award, spent 3 hours on the slope
together with Snowsport England instructors training for their final
week in France in April.
The young people will next visit Les 2 Alpes from 9-16th
April, shadowing real instructors throughout the week and being
assessed for their qualification on the final day. Dan and Emma from
Snow-Camp spent 3 days in Les 2 Alpes this month meeting staff at ski
schools and securing the support of the European Ski School, ESF,
Evolution 2 and other local ski schools prior to the visit. Read the Press Release here.
2011/12 Snowsports Courses - changes ahead!
With the challenges
of the UK’s current economic situation affecting many charities,
the last few months of 2010 saw some big decisions made on the
future of Snow-Camp's programmes.
A new
programme structure is now in place, which we believe puts us in
the best possible position to support London's youth projects into the
future. From Snow-Camp London (Beginner) to Snow-Camp Excel
(Instructor level) - the new structure provides a clearer journey
through which a young person can progress, with youth focused
life-skills and vocational skills sessions a key element at each
stage. Check out the 2011/12 Snowsports Course Overview for all the
details - and get in touch to book your places early! Download
the new 2011/12 Snowsports Course Brochure here!
Youth Club Visits to Your Area!
During
February and March, Emma, our Project Manager, will be visiting all
youth projects that have an interest in attending Snow-Camp
programmes starting in Summer 2011. If you are involved in a Youth
Service and want to find out more about Snow-Camp, please get in touch
to arrange a visit to your youth programme

Jump for Snow-Camp!
This
Summer we wanted to organise a fundraising event that would be easy to
participate in, fun, challenging and with a low fundraising target to
allow as many people as possible to join in. The result? The first ever
Jump for Snow-Camp day!
On July 16th 2011
we are looking for as many Snow-Camp supporters as we can sign up, to
head off to Headcorn Parachute Club to leap from a plane at
12,000ft in aid of Snow-Camp's work. If skydiving has been on your list
for a while, maybe now is the time to tick it off and help Snow-Camp at
the same time! Our friends at P and V Holidays have even put up a week
for 4 in French ski appartment as a prize for the top fundraiser!
See the link below for all the
details - raise just £400 and Jump for FREE! Go on have a look...everyone is welcome!

Staff Changes
We
say goodbye to Elaine at the end of this month as she heads off to
Verbier for skiing and new adventures. All the best Elaine - keep in
touch! Liv is back from maternity leave in March so we are all looking
forward to that, it's not the same without her around!
