Officials :
Assistance in the form of Race Officials is essential to ensure that the LSERSA races run smoothly. On the standard entry form individual competitors are asked to indicate if family members can officiate - and we would appreciate it if people could continue to do this. However, if we do not receive adequate volunteers via the entry forms any Club who has at least 5 racers competing on any one of the races will be expected to provide two volunteers. Clubs will be contacted either prior to the race or, if necessary, on the actual day. Your cooperation with this scheme would be greatly appreciated.

(12 May)  Chemmy climbing Kilamanjaro for charity

To raise money for this they are doing a sponsored climb of Kilamanjaro and they need your help. For more details, including how to donate, please see Chemmy's justgiving page

Please be aware that this could ultimately lead to the sanction of ‘suspension from events’ (ICR 223.3.2).

Report on EGM to discuss/approve merger of LSERSA and SRSA
On Wednesday 17th January 2007 an EGM was held for both LSERSA and SRSA to decide the future of the regions and to vote on dissolving the existing regions and merging as one bigger region.

Firstly, LSERSA's Committee Secretary would like to thank all of you who either returned your Proxy Form or who attended the meeting in person. It was a great reassurance that our attempts to keep our members informed seemed to have worked so well.

Unfortunately, the proceedings did not get as far as hoped, as whilst a majority of LSERSA members voted in favour of the merger, the Southern Region did not feel able to vote, at this time, on the proposal to dissolve and merge as one region. This was because there were several clubs who felt they did not have the full facts or did not have sufficient time to consider them. However, there was a long and frank discussion and it would appear that having become more familiar with the proposal, there was some support for further consideration at a later date. In view of all the hard work that goes into running the regional races during the summer months, it was decided that the proposal would be best left until the AGM in November. This will provide time for more discussion and resolution of problems, which some of the SRSA clubs are concerned about.

Prior to the meeting the Chairs of the Regions had written an open letter and the whole matter of regionalisation had been discussed at various SSE Council meetings. See the Council's Regional Proposals - a document outlining the key points put to the October Council meeting together with a more detailed paper specifically considering the LSERSA and SRSA situation.

Progress Report on Snowsport Modernisation - 20 Dec 06

SSE EGM and Modernisation
At the SnowSports England Extraordinary General Meeting on 18th November 2006, there was strong support for the principles of modernisation and for some aspects of the modernisation paper. However the proposals was defeated.
Members recognised that a tremendous amount of work has been completed to date and so the meeting tasked the Snowsport England Council and Board to work closely with the other Home Nation Governing Bodies to deliver the objectives of modernisation without compromising the continuation of this development and to deliver a report to the Snowsport England AGM in May 2007.

Skiing

It's ecstasy, anguish, joy and despair.
It's part of our history.
It's part of our country and will be part of our future.
It's theatre, art, war and love.
It should be predictable, but never is.
It's a feeling that can't be explained but we spend our lives explaining it.
It's our religion. We do not deny it, we do not apologise for it.

We know how you feel about it because we feel the same.
